How flat do folding reading glasses actually fold?
Completely flat. Most "folding" readers only fold at the arms, which still leaves you with a lump. These collapse at the bridge as well, so the whole frame lies in a single plane and slides into a case just ⅜" thick — thin enough for a shirt pocket or a jacket lining without a bulge.
Are these the same as compact reading glasses?
Not quite. Compact reading glasses usually means a smaller frame in a smaller case, so you trade lens area for pocketability. This is a full-size frame you can properly see out of that happens to fold down to nothing.
What strength do I need?
Reading strength is one number from +1.00 to +3.00, and both lenses are the same. As a rough guide, most people are around +1.50 in their mid-forties, +2.00 around fifty and +2.50 by their mid-fifties. If you already wear readers, buy the strength you have — it rarely needs changing more than once every few years. None of this replaces a sight test with an optometrist, which checks eye health as well as focus.
Do they come with a case?
Yes, every pair includes the slim case it was designed around. The case is rather the point — without it the folding does nothing for you.
What are the frames made of?
Stainless steel, with optical-grade polycarbonate lenses. Polycarbonate is lighter than glass, impact-resistant and optically clear. Steel rather than plastic is what keeps the patented spring hinge tight.
